RV Guide

Are you looking for the best small campers? If so, you are in the right place. Five years ago, we were exactly on the same quest.

We needed a small trailer that our Ford Ranger could haul … a big question, I know!

After months of searching we found our perfectly small motorhome and we became self-proclaimed experts in the field. Today we share the 5 best small campers and trailers on the market in 2020.

As you search for campers; Bathrooms & showers will be mandatory for the admission.

Here we go!

Airstream Nest

MSRP: $45,900

Dry Weight: 3,400

Length: 16′ 7″

Why you love it: This trailer looks hot! The molded fiberglass body is reminiscent of Apple products and the interior has sleek surfaces with beautiful curves.

Both Airstream Nest floor plans must be located at the front of the trailer and the bathroom near the back. The main difference between the two layouts – one has a permanent bed and one has a convertible dinette.

The nest has many high-tech features like Bluetooth-controlled lights, heating & air conditioning, 2-way electric refrigerator and Italian Lite Ply cabinets.

Best feature: aesthetics. You can find newer technology and better functionality in other travel trailers, but you can not find a better look. Airstreams hold their value more than any other trailer because of their beautiful aesthetics.

Small RVs Vibe Score: 8.5/10 High price but  beautiful design!

Taxa Mantis

MSRP: $32,500

Dry Weight: 3,020lbs

Why You’ll Love It: The Taxa Mantis is a utilitarian travel trailer by former NASA architect Garrett Finney. As a founder and designer, Finney’s vision is in every aspect of this unit.

He approaches the trailer life from the perspective of the outdoor adventurer, not a POV RVer. This approach makes the trailer very adaptable to the specific needs of each user.

Functionality is the key to this design. Instead of hiding carpentry (mostly rivets), Taxa keeps the frame and hardware visible and easy to work with. Using high quality materials, this creates a minimalist aesthetic with a focus on materials.

The powder-coated steel frame also has many strategically placed holes. This allows you to connect carabiners for hanging and strapping objects as you wish.

The storage areas are as big as standard milk crates. With this design, you can easily store and access your goods without having to use custom containers.

Best Variety: It has a cool, drop-down stick for extra sleeping (ideally kids)! Despite its size, this pendant can sleep a total of four people.

Small RVs Vibe Score: 8.7/10 Rugged design with great functionality.

Unity by Leisure Travel Vans

MSRP:  $134,210

GVWR: 11,030 lbs

Length: 25′ 1″

Why you love it: Most small campers fall into the category of “travel trailers”. We include this fancy class B to mix it up a bit. The Unity is a relatively small van that has the luxury of huge coaches.

There is a lot of technology in this unit. Indeed, Dometic Leisure uses Travel Vans as a brand to implement its latest innovations. Two of our favorite Dometic innovations are in this particular model.

The first piece of technology that caught our attention was the Dometic IoT system. This system combines all functions of your motorhome on a touch screen.

This is how Leisure Travel Vans describes it:

The brand new Dometic IoT Solution allows users to control and monitor the components of their RVs at the touch of a finger. Six touchscreens are conveniently located throughout the coach that control and monitor the RV’s electrical components, including lighting, air conditioning, awnings, water heaters and tanks, water pump, batteries, inverter status and LP gas. Simultaneously display multiple features about the flexibility of Dometic’s modular screen design. RVers can even customize comfort controls and set scenes that can perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Scenes can also be automated to run at certain times throughout the day. Intelligent Predictive Monitoring provides a predicted view of system load that indicates when critical resources are reaching their limits. For the connected user, the system can be remotely controlled from a smartphone or tablet.

Best Feature: Dometic It Dual Hinge Fridge. This function is long overdue for motorhomes: a refrigerator that can open from both sides. I know, it sounds easy, but it makes a world of difference.

Small RVs Vibe Score: 7.2/10 This rig is pure luxury at a steep luxury price.

HQ15 by Black Series Travel Trailers

MSPR: $43,750

Dry Weight: 4,722lbs

Length: 22′

Why you’ll love it: If you want a small motorhome that can handle off-road travel … the HQ15 is your best bet! The clearance on this trailer is amazing and every tire has individual suspension.

Despite its off-road capabilities, the HQ15 has a luxurious interior with genuine leather seating. The seams are beautiful and well thought out. A Bluetooth-enabled entertainment system with indoor and outdoor speakers completes the high-tech features.

Best Feature: The HQ15 comes with an installed solar system! The 300 W roof system will set you up and ready to catch those rays.

Small RVs Vibe Score: 9.1 / 10 Slightly larger than some of the other small campers, but totally capable to tackle off-road adventures.

The Revel by Winnebago

MSRP: $134,799

GVWR: 8,550 lbs

Why you love it: mobility & functionality. The Revel can fit in almost any parking lot! With 3 deep cycle batteries and a 2000w inverter, you can have a fully powered coach even when you’re parked at Walmart.

The Mercedes Benz chassis is a work of art! Here are the specs directly from Winnebago:
